W0302 Central Park Nest

This nest had a mother sitting on eggs for Mother’s Day. The male brought her a branch as a gift while I was there. This pair didn’t have it’s eggs hatch last year, and are now second clutching after the problems they had on Fifth Avenue. So, I have limited expectations for them, but I’m hoping for the best.

I made a brief visit to the nest on Mother’s Day. The one eyass was hidden for most of my visit before ducking under the mother to stay out of the rain. I haven’t seen it yet, but I understand the eyass is venturing out onto the ledge some days!

Governors Island

I made a visit to Governors Island on Friday. One eyass was visible, although I suspect there might be one or two more.

Washington Square Park

I visited on Thursday, and there were not signs of any hatchlings. I did get some good looks at the male, and it is not the same as the one from last year. This means we have a third male and a forth female at this nest, M3 and F4.

2021 Manhattan Red-tailed Hawk Nest Update 8

I’m a bit behind in watching nests this year. I haven’t had a chance to see some of the nests or follow up on others. I do have some updates however:

The nest in West Harlem made the New York Times.
The Fort Washington nest has three eyasses.
Three eyasses have now been seen in the Tompkins Square Park nest.
Governors Island has at least one eyass.
As of last Thursday, the Washington Square Park nest still hadn’t hatched.
The pair that looked to be building a nest on the Con Ed Smokestack didn’t complete the nest,

Barred Owl

The Barred Owl in Central Park seems to have abandoned the Hemlock Tree it has been roosting in. It is being harassed often by a variety of birds during the day. At dusk, was the other birds got ready to go to sleep it seemed to enjoy the brief period of peace. It was beginning to rain, so I didn’t stay for the fly out.
