It was a relaxed late afternoon with the Eurasian Eagle-Owl. The folks watching him were quiet and the owl was quiet. He kept track of a hawk and turned his body around to get a better look, but other than that there wasn’t much that happened. A bit of preening, but very little stretching before fly out. He made a few stops making a large circle before I lost track of him near the Block House.
Flaco preened and hooted before fly out, flew to a few trees, and then when hunting in the construction area for the new rink/pool.
He’s seems to have settled into the north end of the park. This is the longest he’s stayed in one area since his release by vandals.
Saturday afternoon with Flaco was quiet with the owl sleeping and then waking up to do some hooting and preening. The northern end of Central Park is much quieter than the southern end which is good for the owl. I wasn’t able to stay for the fly out, so I don’t know if he returned to the construction site after dark.
On Friday, Flaco roosted high in a tree above a waterfall in The Loch and went over to the construction site for the new Pool/Rink after fly out. He coughed up a pellet about half an hour before fly out.
I can’t believe Flaco has been in the park for three weeks! I saw him for about an hour in the late afternoon. He coughed up a pellet and then hooted before fly out. I lost track of him almost immediately after he flew out for the night.
The Eurasian Eagle-Owl was calmly resting when I arrived just after a rain shower. He looked a richer color with damp feathers and the last bit of sunlight. He hooted and explored a number of trees before I lost track of him. About twenty minutes later, I heard him hooting and relocated him. His hooting went on for at least thirty minutes. He then flew across a meadow in the northern section of the park and I lost track for the night.
