UWS American Barn Owls, Saturday, 10/31

With the water tank being damaged, the tank was visited very infrequently by the fledglings this evening. There were only a few brief visits. There was lots of activity high on a building a few blocks away, but most of it was landing and exits with only occasional sightings. At least two fledglings were seen, and given the change of locations, this was to be expected. As the fledglings disperse away from the nest site, finding them and trying to locate all of them is next to impossible.

The days of easy sightings have now passed. There had been a nice set of sightings early in the evening as the fledglings left the roost and they would assemble late in the evening to be fed. This no longer happens. So, don’t expect to be able to visit and see the owls, without specialized equipment and a great deal of patience.
