927 Fifth Avenue Feeding

The 927 Fifth Avenue nest appears to have hatched! On Friday afternoon, I saw a feeding. Two other hawk watchers saw separate feedings, Jean Shum on Thursday and Friday and Tahj Holiday on Friday.

It’s too early to be 100% sure that nest has hatched, but the eyasses grow up so fast they should be visible within a week and we’ll know for certain. This is such a surprise. The nest hasn’t had a successful hatch since 2018.

I had always thought Octavia was the infertile hawk all these years, but it might very well have been Pale Male! The last few years, I had thought Octavia had become an old grandmother, but instead she’s a cougar with a young mate!

This is really something to celebrate and I hope the same enthusiasm Upper East Siders and New Yorkers gave to watching this nest in years past returns this year, and the “hawk bench” gets a new generation of nest watchers.
